Coast Creators: Empowering Young People Through Music
A new free community songwriting and performance program is set to launch in Hervey Bay, providing young people with an opportunity to develop creative skills, build confidence, improve wellbeing, and connect with others through music.
Coast Creators, facilitated by musician, educator, and social worker Joel Spence (PhD), is being delivered through the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre's Youth Pitch initiative and is open to young people aged 16–25 from across the Fraser Coast.
The program will bring participants together in a supportive and inclusive environment where they can explore songwriting, performance, storytelling, and creative collaboration, regardless of their previous experience. Participants will also benefit from learning alongside a range of guest facilitators, who will share their knowledge and experience across different areas of music, performance, and the creative industries.
"Music has an incredible ability to bring people together," said Spence. "Coast Creators is about creating a welcoming space where young people can express themselves, learn new skills, build confidence, and connect with others who share similar interests. We want participants to leave with not only new creative skills, but also new friendships and a stronger sense of belonging."
The free program runs from Wednesday 22 July at The Neighbourhood Hive, Hervey Bay, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Young people of all abilities and experience levels are encouraged to participate, from complete beginners through to aspiring performers and songwriters.
Participation is completely free; however, registration is essential.
